Necropolis of Pantalica and Valle dell'Anapo (Anapo Valley)

The Necropolis of Pantalica is a remarkably charming natural reserve consisting of over 5000 caves dug into the sheer walls of the canyons formed by two rivers, Anapo and Calcina. It became a World Heritage site in 2005.

It is a rocky area, the most extensive in Europe, in which history and nature are merged creating the Valle dell’Anapo (Anapo Valley)! This has been formed over millions of years by the erosion produced by the waters of the Anapo River. It represents a site of extraordinary naturalistic, landscape, historical and archaeological beauty of south-eastern Sicily.
